Hannah Parr

Hannah Parr (*1984 in Bournemouth, UK) holds a BA in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. From 2014 until 2018 she lived and worked in Santo Domingo (DR), and in 2020, she obtained a master's degree in Fine Arts at ZHDK in Zurich. Currently, Parr is a studio assistant to Swiss artist Beat Zoderer and works on her own primarily sculptural art.

Hannah Parr’s works are based on specific self-developed working processes. For years, she has been collecting and sorting materials, typically from domestic or manufactured sources. Her diverse output ranges from mosaic-like structures to large-scale augmented wood sculptures and objects referencing social realities and power dynamics.

Parr rewrites the narrative of objects identified with a specific function, thereby harvesting the latent potential of commonplace objects by repurposing them as tools for critical analysis.

The messages conveyed in Parr's humorous and ironic manner usually have a double edge. The titles of works allude to dichotomies that illuminate cutting messages and comment upon condemning given normalities. The embedded irony strengthens the peculiar presence and harmony her works emanate. They evoke ever-present artistic movements such as Fluxus and Surrealism and allow for a variety of interpretations.
