Brett Weir

Brett Weir views his work through the lens of inner reflection and action-based improvisation in music, visual art and poetry. During lengthy periods of isolation in his studio in regional Victoria (AU), Weir continuously explores his preferred technique involving layered enamel applied across metal sheets.

Specialized painting tools in combination with an individually developed process grant the works their unique and vivid appearance. Through this process he emphasizes the transcendental act of his creation. In addition, he touches on the philosophical contemplation of nature.

Weir divides his time between his native Australia and the city of Zurich which has become his second home throughout the past 15 years.

The series titled 1,000 Days references the time spent at a great distance from Zurich since the breakout of the pandemic. During this time, Weir experienced a challenging personal commotion affecting him up to the present. Simultaneously, the paintings are pervaded by impressions the artist unconsciously associates with the Swiss city such as its defining bodies of water and luminous reflections. Those impressions, his memories, and the momentary state of mind form the framework during the fast-paced execution of his paintings.
